Welcome to our website!
QW Farms specialise in growing and supplying high quality apples and pears. Our customers include many of the British supermarkets, premium shops as well as wholesale markets all around the country.
We maximise the use of all of the apples we grow by also supplying the catering trade with, for example, apples for pies, and the drinks trade with fruit for juice and cider!
WHERE WE ARE
The name of the farm is Home Farm and it is in the south east of England in the county of Kent. The farm is a five minute walk from the pretty village of Wateringbury with a shop, post office and village hall. The county town of Maidstone is nearby with many shops, including Primark and Matalan, and museums, leisure facilities and amenities. Wateringbury is linked to Maidstone by bus and train. Canterbury and Chatham are popular local towns to visit and London is only an hour away from Maidstone by train.
THE WORK
We employ some pre-harvest workers to help get the fruit ready for picking and fruit pickers during the harvest season which lasts from August until the end of October. Many pickers are Concordia students and they usually stay from 1st September until 15th October. We work hard and long hours during the harvest, but we have fun too! Expect to work up to 6 days a week and when possible pay will be a on a piece-work basis. You will need waterproof clothing and boots for working in as we work in all weathers when possible. It can be cold in autumn here so you will need warm clothing too.
FACILITIES
Accommodation is in mobile homes or jack-leg buildings or caravans. There are bedrooms with beds, mattresses, pillows and furniture to store your belongings in. There are toilets, showers and washbasins. The kitchen facilities include cookers, fridges, freezers, kettles, cooking pots, cutlery, crockery and tables and chairs. All students must provide and cook their own food and keep the living areas clean and tidy. There is a washing machine and drying area as well as a television room and internet facilities.
The farm will provide weekly shopping transport, and the shops can also be reached by bus or by train.
